Yesterday in Avilés (Spain), Alvatross participated in a stimulating session titled “Strategic Application of Global Talent Trends to the Challenges and Reality of the Family Business.” This session was part of the “APRENDIENDO CON LAS EMPRESAS FAMILIARES” (Learning with Family Businesses) cycle organized by the Youth Forum of AEFAS, with sponsorship from EY and Ibercaja.

The event commenced with an introduction by Bárbara Brun, President of Youth Forum, who set the stage for a fruitful exchange of ideas. Esteemed speakers included Jon Totorika, Director of People Advisory Services at EY, the founder and CEO of alvatross, Luis Rodríguez-Ovejero, accompanied by two other company members: Daniel Sanchez (Director of Engineering) and Abel Ruiz (VP Solutions).

Totorika’s presentation focused on talent management within family businesses, shedding light on the significant challenges they face, particularly in relation to generational succession. He also discussed the balance between academic preparation and the commitment to business management required of new family business leaders. He stressed the need for reflection on the professionalization of successors, highlighting the importance of suitability and preparedness for the role.

Following Totorika’s insightful talk, the three members of alvatross took the stage to discuss “Corporate Entrepreneurship as a Career Path in the Family Business.”. They presented the exciting project that alvatross represents for global telecommunications providers, explaining how our company serves clients worldwide by delivering innovative and personalized solutions that drive digital transformation and ensure companies remain competitive.

Alvatross is committed to providing innovative and personalized solutions to enable companies to achieve digital transformation and stay competitive in the present and future. Luis Rodriguez-Ovejero highlighted the challenges the company faces within the region, stating,

“We are actively seeking talent in Asturias. Yet, it is difficult to find. Many people work for companies outside the region. But we have a strong Asturian culture, and we possess the ability to retain talent and, at times, even attract back those who left.”

Pablo Sanz (Managing Partner at EY), and Mara Muñoz Algarra (Director of Private Banking at Ibercaja) briefly intervened to express their gratitude for AEFAS’s initiative and their commitment to the family business and the new generations.

Alvatross extends heartfelt appreciation to the Youth Forum of AEFAS for organizing this insightful session. The opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, and address talent and family business challenges has been invaluable. The company remains dedicated to fostering innovation, driving digital transformation, and contributing to the growth and success of our family business and the Spanish northern region of Asturias.
